Client Synopsis:

Full Scale Solutions is currently recruiting for the following position located in Raleigh-Durham, NC.

We are seeking a highly motivated and eager incumbent to fill the role of a Database Administrator who will provide specific expertise within the company's Research & Development (R&D) department and is who will be responsible for the administration of their MS SQL Server environments. This is a key role in the evolution of the Business Intelligence portion of the company's SaaS offering.

The ideal candidate is an experienced database administrator with a demonstrated history of installing, configuring, and administering clustered database servers within a complex, virtualized, MS Windows environment. Experience will also include optimizing query syntax, designing transactional and dimensional data models, and sharing knowledge on database best practices.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server 2008 R2 database environments.
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain and confirm that recovery point objectives (RPO) can be met within recovery time objectives (RTO).
  • Plan and implement data migration and integration between transactional systems, operational data stores, data warehouses, data marts, and external applications as needed.
  • Liaise with application developers to design and maintain high-performing T-SQL queries, views, functions, and procedures.
  • Assist in implementing common language runtime (CLR) procedures as needed.
  • Troubleshoot query performance issues, recommending syntax improvements, indices, statistics, or other environmental changes as needed.
  • Establish and maintain documentation for the database environment.
  • Provide architectural guidance to ensure company environments are aligned to Microsoft and industry best practices.
  • Install and update MS SQL Server instances.
  • Forecast capacity needs based on usage and anticipated demand.
  • Work with other members of the Business Intelligence team within R&D to develop standards and drive adoption of those standards.
  • Perform other duties as required.


  • B.S. degree; computer science, software engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in T-SQL development / performance optimization, with 3 years as MS SQL Server administrator.
  • 5+ years of administration/engineering experience in MS SQL Server 2008 or newer.
  • Deep understanding of the MS SQL Server product suite, including SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Deep understanding of relational database concepts, and common data warehousing schemas (star, snowflake, etc.).
  • 1+ years of experience administering MS Windows Servers.
  • 3+ years of experience with virtualization technology.
  • Understanding of shared storage (SAN) architectures.
  • Strong team player.
  • Ability to work with teams in different geographical locations.
  • Accuracy, with an eye for detail.
  • Solid communication skills.
